It’s finally warm enough. In the morning we get out our trusty red blender, our frozen farmers’ market/homegrown berries, the coconut milk, the agave nectar just in case, the protein powder.

(Did you know that you can hull and wash your strawberries, spread them into a single layer on a cookie sheet, and then freeze them? After they’re frozen, pull them off the sheet and pop them into a freezer bag. No big clumps of strawberry to worry about, just lovely individually frozen gems.)

Into the popsicle maker goes half the smoothie (I’m not a super huge fan of the plastic, but there you have it); the other half is shared between the girls for part of their breakfast.

The perfect afternoon snack.

They always have two apiece.
Reason to love summer #2: Homemade smoothie popsicles. Delicious.
(I’m participating with Molly in her documentation project inspired by the flickr group 100 reasons to love summer- are you?)

ahh, there is the recipe! (of sorts, hee hee).
And I love the idea for freezing the berries, because that big clump of berry from the freezer kinda makes me nutty.
thanks!

The coconut milk sounds great! And we’re getting a huge load of blueberries from the CSA tomorrow. Perfect!

These look so good! Your days seem so colorful. Beautiful. And plastics are so convenient for some things… ;)

Also not a fan of the plastic, but some things, well, just have to be made of it.
Also, we have that dress that Bunny is wearing! My MIL bought it for E, believe it or not, and she loves it.

These popsicle makers are so much better than mine. Half the time the stick won’t stay in the popsicle! I like the little drippy spout, too. They look yummy.

I was just clicking around when I found your yummy looking popsicles. Love that you used coconut milk… YUM! Thanks for the great reminder. Another thing to add to my summer list.
Is there an alternative to plastic popsicle molds? I wonder. It would be great if there was. I’m not a big fan of the plastic either.

We use paper dixie cups, and wooden craft popsicle sticks to make our popsicles- then you can recycle the cups, and wash and re-use the sticks. Works wonderfully.

We have to do this soon. Thanks for the reminder about freezing the farmer’s market berries–that would be a good solution for when we aren’t eating them fast enough. I love my plastic popsicle molds–love them–even though we’re trying to eliminate most other plastics–sometimes plastic is appropriate (like the Cuisinart too). Even Soulemama admits this in her book . . .
